As a large tree, it grows to about 30–50 m tall and about 8–10 (–12) m wide in our region. The branches, which are initially upright and later spread almost horizontally, first form a uniformly conical shape and later a broad, spreading habit with a trunk that remains continuous to the top and becomes very sturdy with age. The crushed needles have an orange scent.
