Climate Trees – Green Solutions for a Changing World

Climate change and the increasingly extreme weather conditions present new challenges for landscape architects, municipalities, gardeners, and private individuals alike.

Plantings in public and private spaces should be both impressive and beautiful, yet also manageable in times of prolonged drought. In response, experimental plantings have been developed to identify the so-called “climate trees” – species that are tolerant of high temperatures and dry conditions.

One such tree is Celtis australis (European Nettle Tree). Native to Southern Europe, this broad-crowned deciduous tree is both picturesque and robust, making it an excellent choice as a street tree in urban environments. Other trees that have proven particularly climate-tolerant include various Acer species (Maple), Sorbus aria (Whitebeam), Alnus spaethii (Purple Alder), and several Tilia species (Linden).

Choose from our wide-ranging selection to find the tree best suited to your project — we would be happy to provide you with expert advice.
