Cercis siliquastrum

A slow-growing, broad-crowned tree or large shrub that reaches up to 10 m in its native habitat but only 6–8 m tall and 4–6 m wide in our region. It exhibits a rare phenomenon: cauliflory, or flowering on the trunk. The purplish-pink flowers burst from their buds before the leaves emerge, enveloping the shrub in a pink mantle.
